April 2004

At the end of January Alien Kabaret played the SiLENCiO alternative cabaret at Edinburgh's Counting House. In spite of technical difficulties the atmosphere was hot-and-happening and feedback was exuberant, both from the desk and the audience.

A week earlier Woodstock played a solo set at the CCA Lab Night in Glasgow, which was recorded and broadcast by Radio Six International. This was a terrific evening with a great laidback vibe. A return visit occurred in March with Alien Kabaret, and once again the response was excellent. You can read one audience member's reactions on Alien Kabaret's home page.

Just before Easter Woodstock provided the cabaret for the Scottish Streetnet Conference at Edinburgh's Bongo Club. This turned out to be a solo appearance due to the illness of Accordion Pete, so Woodstock played a solo set, including four songs with backing tracks taken from AK's recording sessions. The gig turned out to be a multiple reunion: Will, the sound engineer, had worked at Arrivistes, the club Woodstock ran at the Edinburgh Venue in the 1990s, and amongst the conference delegates were Tom the Poet, whom Woody knew from Edinburgh Songwriters days, and performance artist Becc Phipps, a former London day-job colleague who had been at the very first ever Alien Kabaret gig at the Spitz in London back in 1999. Becc now works as a clown - but then she was always good for a laugh!
