August 6th 2005

Woodstock has been booked to appear in a new cabaret for the duration of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August. The run is an Abercromby production for Assembly Theatre.

A thriving alternative scene at the original 369 Gallery back in the 1980s through to the early 1990s helped launch the Gilded Balloon Theatre (and with it many careers). Gallery owner and arts impresario Andrew Brown, one of the very first people to give Woodstock regular work as a musician in the 90s, is hoping to conjure up that kind of energy once again with this new production.

Accompanying herself on the piano for a change, Woodstock has been busy writing new material and rearranging existing songs for the occasion, which takes place at the Cave Of The Golden Calf Cabaret Club in the Royal Scots Club, 30 Abercromby Place.

There are three shows a night, and Woodstock is in all of them. The early evening show is called "What's Love Got To Do With It", where she shares a stage with poets Sophie Larkin (who is also compiling the show), and Salena Godden, plus assorted guests, for a thorough look at the thorny subject of love.

The mid-evening performance, entitled "Mostly Haunted", features (among others) La Céline, Salena Godden and Woodstock and has been devised by the actor Richard Bremmer (whose horrifically accomplished track record includes Dracula and the voice of Voldemort in Harry Potter 1... making him eminently qualified to scare the living daylights out of his audiences!).

And the late show, modelled on the avant-garde Edwardian London club of the same name is a glittering spectacular combining performance art, comedy, music and mime.
