Because Music Saves Lives

Sadly, Groovemachine mag is no more.

Even more sadly, there doesn't seem to be a copy of the excellent interview Nate Roberts did with Woody that came out in the same issue as his review of W2PW. It was good, though. Especially since he really, really doesn't like lounge.

Even though the track was inexplicably #1 in Acoustic for a while on Rocket Radio, it seems the only people who like Emotional At Airports are Woody, her friends Richard and Tony, her sister Alison and one of the other songwriters who was playlisted alongside it on Radio Six.

Happily, some people like Beautiful Afternoon quite a lot and are playing it regularly on their radio stations and other people are getting to like it too.

Return To Planet Woodstock - Woodstock Taylor
Cuppa Records
By Nate Roberts

Track 1: Beautiful Afternoon, Pop/Rock, simple melody, catchy lyrics, overall it’s a little weak I don’t think I would’ve made it Track #1…

Track 2: Swimming with Sharks, Evil/Blues, reminds me of Sid Barrett’s solo work, which is to say without a doubt very good, I’d say this is better…

Track 3: FU (If You), Pop/Rock, this one is different and very good.  Unexpected lyrics and very solid melody make this one a track worthy of repeating…

Track 4: England, Pop/Rock, this is probably the best song on the album; it would definitely be the radio single off the album.  Talk about catchy, it reminds me of the Beatles, and anything that can do that genuinely today gets a thumb up from me…

Track 5: Clone July, Jazz/Blues/Pop, Woodstock’s unique sound definitely works here where it didn’t in Beautiful Afternoon.  The music, at times, is a little Cabana, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing…

Track 6: Mickey Finn, Acoustic/Lounge, dark lyrics and a dark melody make this song come together in a cloud of cigarette smoke.  This is really great song, one of the better songs on the album…

Track 7: Between Us, Blues/ Lounge, a somber love song with a perfect soundtrack, this one is quite a gem…

Track 8: Right Thing, Pop/Weird, another Beatley Sid Barrett-like creation, another great track…

Track 9: Tongue Tied: Rock, the fastest song on the album, it seems Woodstock’s style couldn’t handle anything quicker than a ballad, but it works out just fine.  In fact, I’d like to see more like this one…

Track 10: Road Movie, Blues/Lounge, repetitive lyrics and very basic music make this a quite boring track, worthy of the Skip>>> button…

Track 11: Resolution, Rock, great lyrics and great music, definitely makes up for the weakness in the last track…

Track 12: Emotional at Airports, Electronic/Pop, I can’t even say how bad this track is, the intro should have told me not to keep listening but I did, and it didn’t get any better…

Track 13: Circus, Acoustic, a good song to end the album, the music could’ve been a little more diverse, but it was so monotonous that I couldn’t listen, great lyrics again…

The rating given hear is purely on a song by song basis, if I had to rate Woodstock Taylor the artist with this album I’d give her a 9 for an originality that is not only amazing but also refreshing to see and hear in a time where modern popular music is probably the worst it’s ever been, and most music appreciators are turning to independent artists like Woodstock for there GOOD music fix…
